Board Says Too Many Questions Remain

It's back to the drawing board for De Vargas Middle School, which had hoped to convert to a charter school by fall.

Friday, the state Board of Education voted to uphold the Santa Fe school board's rejection of De Vargas' charter application.

Santa Fe board members have said they turned down the application because the state's charter school law and the school neighborhood's wishes were unclear.

The displacement of neighborhood children, a lack of support from almost 50 percent of De Vargas parents and too many unanswered questions were reasons state board members gave for upholding denial of the charter proposal. …
