Rainbow Family Members To Appeal to U.S. High Court.

A Santa Fe man and two co-defendants who defied the U.S. Forest Service by refusing to sign a permit for a Rainbow Family gathering in the Allegheny National Forest now look to the U.S. Supreme Court to hear their case.

A lawyer for Garrick Beck, 51, of Santa Fe and Joan Kalb of New York City said he was preparing an application for a writ of certiorari, in essence a request that the nation's highest court hear their case. A third defendant, Stephen Sedlacko of Eugene, Ore., is represented by a Pennsylvania attorney on the same case.

Beck said in December he planned no appeal of a 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals decision upholding their convictions. But news reports of his case generated offers of legal assistance, which prompted him and his codefendants to change their minds, he said Wednesday.
