State Schools Chief Says SFPS Is on Right Track

State Superintendent Michael Davis restored full financial authority Friday to the Santa Fe school district, after more than 1 1/2 years of state control over the district's money matters.

Davis appeared confident that Santa Fe Public Schools the state's fourth largest school district is making a comeback.

"On the basis of what has already been accomplished, I fully expect to see continued improvement in the Santa Fe school district financial operations," said Davis, whose own children attend Santa Fe schools.

He seized the district's fiscal authority in June 1999 because the district overspent its budget by approximately $2.6 million in the 1998-99 fiscal year. …
