West Mesa Will Keep Off-Track.(Metropolitan)

Parents startled by a notice saying the city planned to cut a day-care program turned up at a community center Friday to protest, only to be told the announcement was an error.

Albuquerque officials want to save $200,000 this year by cutting costs for part-time workers at the city's community centers, but the move shouldn't result in any service cuts, said Gerald Ortiz y Pino, director of the Department of Family and Community Services.

Ortiz y Pino said he has directed supervisors of the 22 community centers to find ways to trim their budgets for part-time workers by a third. It likely will require some supervisors and full-time activity directors to include evening hours in their schedules, he said. …
