Researchers Team Up For State-of-the-Art computers

Nuclear weapons design and the human genome project will cross paths in a new deal signed Friday between two of the heaviest hitters in their respective fields.

Sandia National Laboratories and Celera Genomics agreed to team up with Compaq Computer Corp. to develop a new generation of faster computers.

Celera needs them for the hard work of understanding how to turn basic data about the human genome into new drugs to improve lives.

Sandia needs them to simulate nuclear weapon performance, because actual test blasts are prohibited.
