The first thing to remember about New Mexico's fancy new Hyatt Regency resort and golf club at Santa Ana Pueblo is that Tamaya rhymes with "la la," (as in "ooh la la.") Drop the middle "a" and just say "Tam-YA."

Pronunciations fell all over the map among the 500 invited guests Monday, when the 350-room hotel and spa threw its VIP opening. The most common mispronunciation put the accent on the last syllable to rhyme with "kumbaya." Tamaya means "the people" in Keres, the language of the Santa Ana people.

Tamaya opened to the public Tuesday, but staff members indicated that a fancy grand opening for Albuquerqueans might be scheduled for May. …
