Rio Grande Cruises To Win Vs. Sandia

After Rio Grande's impressive boys high school basketball victory over Sandia on Thursday night, jubilant senior Eddie Abreu gave a forecast of what might be in store for future Ravens opponents.

"Tonight, we came out and were ready to go," Abreu said. "If we play like this from now on, we should have a hell of a team."

Abreu scored a game-high 26 points, and Serge Angounou added 20 as the Ravens raced to an 81-59 victory over the second-ranked Matadors in a District 2-5A contest played before an enthusiastic throng of fans on Rio Grande's homecourt.

With Angounou, who grabbed 13 rebounds, working in the paint and Abreu and Leo Padilla hitting jumpers, the Ravens (10-4, 2-0) had a nearly unstoppable inside-outside offensive punch. …
