Victim Had Provided Odd Jobs to Suspect

North Valley resident Eugene Harris, 92, says he gave coffee, fresh-cooked muffins and some odd jobs to a man who had been coming to his house in search of work.

In return, Albuquerque police say, Harris was burglarized, beaten and hospitalized.

Harris was attacked about 7 a.m. Wednesday at his home on Rio Grande NW, according to city police. The suspect in the attack, 52-year-old Juan Martinez of Gabaldon NW, was arrested several hours later.

Harris said during a brief phone interview Thursday that his attacker apparently wanted some work Wednesday, but Harris said he had none for him. …
