APS Hopefuls See a Need For More Arts.(Metropolitan)

Albuquerque school board candidates Thursday debated how making arts a top priority could raise test scores and student performance.

Parents and audience members during a forum at the South Broadway Cultural Center asked candidates how they would handle public money, encourage parent involvement and make sure students learn.

The forum was organized by the Albuquerque Arts Alliance and the Junior League of Albuquerque.

Candidates from Districts 3, 5, 6 and 7 agreed children should be exposed to more than the average six or seven hours of art or music they now receive each year. Not everyone agreed more money is the answer. …
