* New Mexico Military Institute musicians overcome setbacks on the way to George W. Bush's inaugural parade

The 58-member marching band from New Mexico Military Institute took off for Washington earlier this week, en route to the Saturday inaugural parade for President-elect George W. Bush.

They had a few problems along the way.

* On the way from their Roswell campus for a flight out of Albuquerque the next day, their bus encountered snow-slick highways, delaying their planned 8 p.m. arrival time by about two hours.

* Once in Albuquerque, drum major Carlos Alvarez discovered to his horror that his uniform was still hanging in the closet in Roswell.

* The band found out it will play somewhere along the inaugural parade route but might not get to march.

* The band held a loud and late-night Tuesday rehearsal in a unused restaurant at its Albuquerque hotel, and woke up some guests. …
