* Elderly couple says $5,400 lost to 'illegal immigrant' in lottery ticket scam

Cristina and Inocente Dominguez of Albuquerque were saving up for a trip to visit two grandchildren in Cuba they've never seen.

Now those plans are on hold. Maybe, forever.

They say con artists recently tricked them into losing years of savings part of which they were about to use for the visit.

In this scam, there were no promises of a huge profit. The couple lost more than $5,000 simply because they were trying to help out a fellow immigrant.

According to the Dominguezes and a police report they filed, the scam went like this: The Dominguezes were in the produce section at So-Lo Freshmart on San Pedro when a woman approached them, saying she had a winning lottery ticket that she couldn't cash because she was an illegal immigrant. …
