New Complex Expected To Be Done By August

Bulldozers moved in to demolish Ladera Golf Course's existing pro shop and restaurant Thursday in order to clear space for an ambitious new $1.5 million multipurpose complex that should be completed by midsummer.

The primary features of the new complex are a pro shop area with more than double the square footage of the previous pro shop, a huge banquet room, a full-service restaurant and a display case in the lobby devoted to Albuquerque golfer Notah Begay.

As a youngster, Begay learned to play golf at Ladera. He currently is a four-time champion on the PGA Tour.

"He wanted to make sure that people knew this was his home course," said Ladera assistant pro Wright Zimmerly, a longtime friend of Begay's. …
