* Dean Dovey has abandoned commercial photography to pursue more creative pursuits

When Dean Dovey graduated from photography school in 1983, he found himself groomed for a successful career in commercial photography.

He opened a studio specializing in fashion photography and soon began working for the likes of Marshall Fields, Sears, Montgomery Ward and other department stores, shooting layouts for their catalogs. "I did sportswear, juniors, lingerie just whatever they needed," Dovey recalled.

Before long, however, he became restless with the run-of-the-mill nature of the business, not to mention some of the unpleasant realities of fashion photography, particularly dealing with the models. …
