District 2 Candidates Debate Reform.

Board of Education Election Is Feb. 6

Incumbent Santa Fe school board member Marcy Litzenberg and challenger Robb Young Hirsch agreed on most matters, except how to reform schools, at a Thursday candidates forum for the upcoming election.

Hirsch focused on what he believes is the need for a smaller administration in the Santa Fe Public Schools, as well as more school control over resources, four-year scholarships for teachers willing to work in the neediest schools and merit-based pay for outstanding teachers.

Hirsch, facing Litzenberg for the District 2 seat in the Feb. 6 election, was gung-ho about charter schools, while Litzenberg, unimpressed by their performance data, said she saw them as temporary solutions until school-based management is put to work in regular schools. …
