Tailback Styers Wins Ray Giannini Memorial Award.(Sports)

Tailback Billy Styers, who missed the second half of the season with a broken leg, is the 2000 recipient of the Ray Giannini Memorial Award.

The award is given to the St. Pius senior football player who best exemplifies the attributes admired by Giannini, the late Sartans' coach who died early last year.

Those qualities include, but are not limited to, academics, athletics and leadership. Mostly it is about a player's character.

"It's an incredible honor," said Styers, 17, who broke his leg in a practice after the team's fifth game and was forced to watch from the sidelines the remainder of the year. …
