Decision on Water Line Postponed.

The Rio Rancho Utilities Commission wants to find a way to provide enough water for fire protection for new housing developments at the far end of current water lines.

The commission Tuesday voted to table, pending further study, a request by Gary Wallen of Wallen Builders of Rio Rancho for water line extension to about 44 houses. The houses are part of the Progress Heights development, around Iris near Idalia roads, which is near the county landfill.

The city Utilities Department had recommended the commission disapprove extending water lines because a study indicated that if the lines were extended, there would not be enough water pressure for fire fighting. …
