$487,500 Grant To Aid Water System in Tijeras.

Tijeras will receive a $487,500 grant from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to help finish the village water system, Mayor Gloria Chavez said last week.

Since 1992, Tijeras has been building a system to provide water to village residents. Phases I and II consisted of two water tanks, a well and water distribution lines, said Jennifer Martinek, grants administrator with Molzen-Corbin & Associates, the village's engineering, architecture and planning firm.

The distribution lines built in Phase I served the western portion of the village, including Roosevelt Middle School, A. Montoya Elementary School and other buildings in the village's commercial corridor. …
