Statues for Moriarty Still Undelivered

The state of New Mexico has sued a Texas artist over four statues that were supposed to be placed in Moriarty.

The statues, collectively called "The Settlers," depict themes of the early days of Torrance County farming, ranching, the railroad and construction of Route 66. The $100,000 project is part of the Cultural Corridors program administered by the state Office of Cultural Affairs.

Texas artist Linda Chandler worked for almost two years on the project, which was first scheduled to be delivered to Moriarty in July 1999. But Chandler had a dispute with the foundry casting the bronze sculptures, which delayed the delivery, said Carla Sanders, coordinator of the Cultural Corridors program. …
