Shoplifting, Lack Of Hangouts Discussed

Shoplifting and loitering are among the problems that have raised concerns about unsupervised children in the Tijeras area.

The East Mountain Health and Prevention Coalition met on Jan. 11 to discuss these problems as well as the safety of children after school.

The coalition is part of the outreach program at Talking Talons Youth Leadership in Tijeras. The coalition was formed in 1999 through a grant from the New Mexico Department of Health.

At the meeting, Bernalillo County Sheriff's deputies, a social worker from Roosevelt Middle School, a librarian from the East Mountain Library, a business owner and community members discussed how to address the various problems involving youngsters in Tijeras. …
