* Johnson slips on ice while running, injuring his spine

SANTA FE Gov. Gary Johnson was hospitalized Wednesday with a spine injury after he fell on ice while running down a steep slope.

Johnson, 48, was in "good spirits and is doing well," said Diane Kinderwater, his press secretary.

The slip occurred near his residence on the northeast side of Santa Fe.

Johnson, an accomplished triathlete who wants to climb Mount Everest when he leaves office, shouldn't suffer any permanent injury from the accident, his doctor said.

He might have to limit his physical regimen over the next six months to a year, said Erich Marchand, a neurosurgeon at St. Vincent Hospital.

Johnson was running alone, unaccompanied by his security detail, when he fell on his back on pavement, Kinderwater said. …
