If you ever see the Rev. Chrysostom Partee of Jemez Pueblo driving around New Mexico or west Texas in his borrowed, green, 1997 Pontiac Grand Am, give him a wave.

He'll love it. In fact, Partee, now 76, considers friendship one of the biggest perks of his job.

As assistant pastor of the Parish of San Diego Missions headquartered on Jemez Pueblo, Partee, more commonly known as Father Chrys, is frequently on the road.

He attends at least three meetings a week and celebrates about 25 Masses a month at the parish's six mission churches at Santa Ana, Zia, and Jemez Pueblos, San Ysidro, Canon and Ponderosa, logging more than 2,000 miles every few weeks on his odometer.

Partee doesn't own the car. It belongs to the church. In fact, Partee, as a Franciscan priest, doesn't own much at all except for a few personal items and two boxes of photograph albums of friends and relatives.
