'The Gift' Comes Alive With Blanchett's Performance.

"The Gift" won't take you anywhere you haven't been before. The bonus is, it at least revels in taking the scenic route to its destination.

Certainly not dazzling but definitely not a fizzler, Sam Raimi's Gothic murder mystery bubbles with tasty morsels.

It benefits from the director's renowned atmospheric touch, a keen script (if not story) by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson and an outstanding lead performance by Australian Cate Blanchett as a widowed Southern psychic who has visions of one murder and possibly another.

Blanchett's Annie Wilson has an occupation that makes her somewhat of a sideshow for the restless occupants of a small but not sleepy town. …
