Proposal Praised By Commissioners

Residents of a subdivision far from the seat of government in Valencia County say they're willing to pitch in to help improve a major road in their community if the county also is willing to help.

Highland Meadows, a community of about 300, is located along N.M. 6 about 35 miles west of Los Lunas. It is plagued by unpaved and poor roads often made impassable during bad weather.

"We're trying to develop a project which demonstrates that we as a community, even as far away as we are from the rest of Valencia County, are willing to take on certain responsibilities ourselves and help in relieving some of the county's burdens," James Ashmore of the Highland Meadows community association told commissioners this week. …
