Fiance Charged In Death of Girlfriend

A year and a day after 18-year-old Chasity King was killed in her Belen apartment with a high-powered hunting rifle, her fiance will go to trial on charges he pulled the trigger.

Gillis Mullins Jr., 21, is scheduled to appear before 13th Judicial District Judge John Pope Feb. 20. King was killed Feb. 19, 2000.

Mullins faces charges of murder, or in the alternative, manslaughter, according to court records.

Mullins' attorney, Armando Torres, did not return calls from the Journal. Mullins is being held in the county jail in Los Lunas.

Detective Floyd Montoya interviewed Mullins after Mullins was arrested while walking on Edmundo Road in Belen the morning of the shooting, according to a Valencia County Sheriff's Department report. …
