Hearing Officer Joins District Bench.(Metropolitan)

James J. Loughren, a family-court hearing officer, was named Tuesday by Gov. Gary Johnson to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of state District Judge Diane Dal Santo.

Loughren, 54, has been a child support and family law hearing officer for the 2nd Judicial District since 1994.

Although Dal Santo, who retired on Nov. 30, was a criminal-division judge, Loughren will serve as a family court judge.

According to a news release Tuesday from the Governor's Office, Loughren's term is effective immediately.

Under New Mexico's judicial selection system, Loughren will run in a partisan race either in a party primary or the next general election and if elected, will stand for retention every six years. …
