Girls Team Downs Hot Springs, 51-48
Under the most unlikely of circumstances, the Bernalillo Spartans on Tuesday night won for only the second time this season, a stirring 51-48 girls basketball victory over visiting Hot Springs in a District 3-3A matchup.
The Spartans (2-11 overall, 1-2 in district) trailed 46-36 with 2:36 remaining before staging an incredible comeback.
"We needed this win in so many ways," said Bernalillo coach Gary Gutierrez, whose team has lost a handful of close games this season, leading to a somewhat misleading record. "We are a good team, we really are. We just got over the hump, so to speak. …
