Pueblo Governor Served His People.(Opinion)

Former Sandia Pueblo Gov. Inez Baca spent much of his life serving his people. He died Thursday of brain cancer at the age of 71. Baca was appointed governor four times, in 1979, 1987, 1993 and 1999. He also served several terms each as lieutenant governor, tribal councilor and war captain. A war captain is responsible for cultural and traditional activities at the pueblo.

Sandia Gov. Stuwart Paisano said Baca's leadership record was a testimony to the community's trust in him.

"When he served as governor in this office, he was someone who was highly respected," said Paisano, who is Baca's nephew. …
