Attorney Drops Bid In School Race.(Metropolitan)

City Employees Can't Hold Elected Offices

Ronald R. Bratton, a city attorney for the Albuquerque Police Department, said he is dropping his bid for a school board seat, but his name still will be on the ballot.

"I'm withdrawing for personal reasons," Bratton said Monday.

Albuquerque City Attorney Bob White said the City Charter prohibits city employees from holding elected offices.

"Under the City Charter, I cannot have both, I cannot be both," Bratton said.

But Bratton's name will remain on the ballot because he missed the Jan. 2 deadline for withdrawal, said Jaime Diaz, Bernalillo County Bureau of Elections administrator. …
