* UNM opponents are starting to foul as a way to get back into games

They're called free throws for a reason. They're free.

A mere 15 feet is all that separates the shooter from the basket. Fifteen feet and a million nerves.

Still, it should be easy. It should be a free point, right?

Wrong, as far as the University of New Mexico men's basketball team is concerned. The Lobos have run afoul of the free-throw line.

"They're free," says a frustrated UNM coach Fran Fraschilla. "But when you don't make them, they're foul shots."

So foul, in fact, that teams are starting to hammer the Lobos as a way to get back into games. And UNM has obliged. …
