Paying for Time

Failing to pay a traffic fine lands some people in jail.

Some people are too poor, others forget or don't complete the community service ordered by a judge in lieu of cash.

Under current law, an inmate can pay off a fine at a rate of $5 for every day spent in jail.

The New Mexico Association of Counties would like to see that changed. …
