Some overcrowded jails and prisons in New Mexico and elsewhere have addressed their problem by putting inmates on the bus.

Prisoners from Washington, D.C., found themselves in a private prison/county jail in Torrance County, where they rioted and injured eight guards in November.

Inmates from Montana were transferred to the McKinley County Detention Center, where they were held with inmates from Bernalillo County. It was the inmates from Bernalillo County who escaped twice.

The Bernalillo County inmates were in McKinley County because the Santa Fe County Detention Center refused to take them. …
