Homicide Study Looks At 'Intimate Partners'

The recent Melanie Frank hotel murder appears to underscore a problem throughout the state: Close to half of all homicides in which a woman was the victim are tied to domestic violence.

A review of homicide cases involving women from 1993 to 1998 shows that 46 percent of the killings were carried out by someone the victim knew well, according to a study headed by the University of New Mexico's Department of Emergency Medicine and the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.
