Water for New Lines Not Available, Utilities Says.

The city Utilities Department has come out against extending water and sewer lines to a development planned near Idalia and Iris roads.

Department Director Larry Webb said in a Jan. 2 briefing memo to the Utilities Commission that an engineer's study of the plans for Progress Heights II showed there wasn't enough water pressure for the area.

Webb recommended the commission disapprove the developer's request for city water at its meeting tonight.

However, the developer, Gary Wallen of Wallen Builders of Rio Rancho, said Monday that he plans to go ahead with the project because he's allowed under city ordinance to build homes with private wells and septic systems. …
