* Luxury resort on Santa Ana Pueblo land opens to the public today

The largest resort to be built on Native American land opened its doors Monday to several hundred people and 16 special guests.

The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa on the Santa Ana Pueblo opens to the public today.

The lucky 16 were the resort's first official guests.

Selected by area radio stations, they were transported by limousine, on red carpet and by white-gloved captains serving them champagne into the world of the Tamaya, which means "the people" to the Santa Anas.

Their arrival at 3 p.m. marked the beginning of Monday's festivities. During their two-day stay they will experience a full schedule of activities including hot-air-balloon rides, gourmet food, carriage rides and all the pampering the spa can offer.

While the guests were whisked into the lap of luxury to be treated to massages, seaweed wraps, billowy beds and late-night swims in a heated pool under the stars, Hyatt's opening crew and pueblo members prepared to unveil the resort to selected area dignitaries and the who's who of New Mexico. …
