Students' Scores Falter in Math, Science.

Rio Rancho students continue to fall below state standards in math and science test scores, despite ranking among the top in the state overall, according to district reports.

The majority of Rio Rancho Public Schools students in grades three through nine performed at or above state proficiency levels in social studies, with third- and fourth-graders also scoring proficient in language arts.

In addition to the national Terra Nova exam, the state gives a supplemental test that is customized for New Mexico. It reflects standards set by the state Board of Education. The standards outline what students are expected to know at each grade level in math, science, language arts and social studies. …
