A glance across snow-blanketed Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe reveals little about the field's condition. Look beneath the snow and see its real state much of the grass has been stripped away, almost as if sheep graze there.

It's not livestock that officials are worried about. Instead, it's the soccer and baseball leagues causing alarm.

Since August, Fort Marcy and almost every other green field the city park department maintains have been denied all but a minimum amount of irrigation because of the water shortage. In turn, turf has yellowed, died and blown away, causing millions of dollars in damage and limiting the places where popular youth leagues can practice. …
