One-Lane I-40 Traffic To Delay Big I Travel.(Metro & New Mexico)

Rebuilding the Big I

* Two lanes must be lowered to create more room for truck passage, closing the I-40 eastbound ramp to I-25 northbound

Construction to lower two eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 through the core of the Big I has been scheduled for Jan. 22-28.

The work will force eastbound I-40 traffic to narrow to one lane through the interchange core. Long traffic delays are expected.

"We want everybody to be aware that the next couple of weeks will be a true test of their patience," said Steve Harris, district engineer for the New Mexico State Highway Department.
