Domenici Seeks Upgrades at Weapons Labs.

Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said Monday he will push for $500 million or more a year to replace aging factories and laboratories in the U.S. nuclear weapons complex.

The new initiative would bring $5 billion to $10 billion in new money into the U.S. nuclear weapons complex over the next five to 10 years, Domenici said during a news conference Monday afternoon at Sandia National Laboratories.

Sandia would be one beneficiary of the new money, Domenici said.

He cited Sandia electronics workers now stuck in old Quonset huts as one example of infrastructure that needs replacement.

"The wind is howling in through a door," Domenici said after a Sandia tour Monday. …
