$20 Million Investment Boosts Raton Tech Company.

Anytime a big international bank decides to plunk down $20 million as an investment in a New Mexico company, that's noteworthy.

Add to the mix that the company believes it will add about 350 jobs to Raton's small-city economy and that the technology comes from a once-secret Soviet nuclear facility.

Now that's real interesting.

On Monday, Credit Suisse First Boston, a division of the Swiss-based Credit Suisse Group, announced it will invest $20 million in technology held by Raton-based Stolar Horizon Inc. to develop advanced mining exploration and land-mine detection equipment.

The deal was born out of the Department of Energy's Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention program, which was designed to identify and develop nonmilitary applications of defense technologies for scientists in the former Soviet Union. …
