Salute To Colonial Technology Lacks $70,000 for Bronze Fountain

Efforts to raise money to build a Santa Fe monument commemorating colonial technology, farming and culture introduced here four centuries ago have fallen far short of previous hopes.

Organizers for the Cuarto Centenario Monument planned for Cathedral Park this week will discuss how to remedy a roughly $70,000 shortfall in the project. Combining the resources of City Hall and private efforts, organizers had originally wanted to raise $125,000 by the end of 2000 but find themselves with only a little more than $53,000. Fund raising began on July 4. …
