Franciscan Priest Says Job Allows Him To Get Closer to God.(Career Marketplace)

The Rev. Chrysostom Partee, 76, assistant pastor of the Parish of San Diego Missions north of Bernalillo, says the best part of being a Franciscan priest is the "opportunity to pray and get closer to God" and to develop lasting friendships.

Goodness knows it's not the money. Partee, who is known throughout the rural parish as Father Chrys, earns about $675 a month, all of which he says goes into a general fund that's shared with the priests he lives with.

As a member of the Franciscan order, Partee took a vow of poverty. He was ordained on June 8, 1950, at Holy Family Parish in Oldenburg, Ind., and usually starts each day at 5 a.m with an hour of prayer. …
