Recruits Can Sign Up At Job Fair Tuesday

Uncle Mike Dombeck wants you, at least 3,500 of you.

The U.S. Forest Service, of which Dombeck is chief, has announced a national hiring spree of about 3,500 temporary and permanent workers.

The Santa Fe National Forest is holding a job fair Tuesday in Espanola to round up recruits, according to forest service information.

So far, about 200 permanent employees already have been hired in New Mexico and Arizona, said Loretta Sandoval of the Santa Fe National Forest.

The hiring blitz is part of the forest service's National Fire Plan, she said, a response to the whopper fire season of last summer and widespread forest conditions that could spell more fire in the future. …
