St. Vincent Officials Defend Axing Physical Therapy Programs

Officials at St. Vincent Hospital have failed to weigh the social costs of their decision to axe physical and occupational therapy programs there, a Santa Fe woman says.

Young children, like her 14-month-old son, usually have a brief time before the age of 3 years to overcome the prospect of lifetime disabilities through physical therapy, said Gretchen Grogan of her son, Liam Donahue.

"There's a window of opportunity for these kids and I don't know if the hospital considered the social costs of what happens when the services are no longer there," Grogan said. …
