Wilson Proposes Capital Funding for Charter Schools.(Metropolitan)

New Mexico will have a shot at $25 million the federal government has set aside for charter schools, Rep. Heather Wilson said Friday.

Wilson, R-N.M., sponsored a bill that will provide capital funding to three pilot programs throughout the country.

Programs will be selected based on how well they can stretch the money and use it to benefit their schools, Wilson said.

There is no guarantee any of the money will go to New Mexico charter schools, Wilson said. But she said she was determined to work with the New Mexico charter schools and financiers to develop a "first-class proposal."
