Swing dance heats up Sandia Park center.

The Mountain Arts Council will warm up a cold January with a hot event Jan. 20, a swing dance that will give the audience a chance to swing to their favorite old-time tunes.

Swing City, a seven-member group playing big band sounds from the '30s, '40s and '50s, will play from 7-10 p.m. at the Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park. Music from Stan Kenton, Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller and Duke Ellington will be featured.

Band members include Albuquerque Academy instructor Mike Mayes on bass, former Army USO band member Mark Sherman in the rhythm section, Don Rood on the keyboards, and optician Jim Thompson on trumpet. …
