OMI Ruling Backs Suspect's Statements

The Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque found traces of cocaine in the system of a Santa Fe woman who was choked and stabbed to death in October.

The OMI's ruling supports a statement made by David Baca that Kathleen Lopez smoked cocaine with Baca and Ivan Sanchez-Lara in her Don Diego Avenue home before she was strangled, stabbed multiple times and then decapitated.

Tim Stepetic, associate director of the office's administration, said Thursday the medical investigator who performed the autopsy "just can't speculate on a lethal level" of cocaine in Lopez's body at the time of her death. …
