Woman Accused of Fraud Over Cerro Grande Funds

An Albuquerque woman, accused of using an alias to defraud the federal government out of emergency cash in the Cerro Grande Fire, allegedly complained to Rep. Tom Udall D-N.M., that money wasn't coming fast enough.

Pamela Medley claimed she lost more than $329,000 in the blaze, which scorched Los Alamos. She wrote Udall to complain about getting "the runaround," according to an indictment filed against her this week.

Medley, using the name of her dead friend Shelley Wallace, wrote to Udall and said the Federal Emergency Management Agency review process was "very lengthy and tedious," the indictment said.

Medley, 49, asked for Udall's help to have her claim paid because she was "fed up with the runaround she was getting from FEMA," the indictment said. …
