Ambulance Rate Hike Request Questioned.

The Moriarty City Council voiced opposition Tuesday to a proposal by a private ambulance service to curtail services and increase rates in Torrance County.

Moriarty Fire Chief Karl Ehl asked the council for direction on the issue at its regular meeting Tuesday night.

Mednet Ambulance, which serves as the county's primary ambulance service, asked the Torrance County Commission last month for permission to take one of its full-time ambulances off duty and to seek an increase in its fees from the state Public Regulation Commission.

Mednet officials said at the time that the company was losing money in the county. …
