2nd Half Costs Moriarty Game.(Sports)

The Moriarty High boys basketball team appeared up to the challenge after the first half of play in a nondistrict contest against Class AAA power Pojoaque on Tuesday night in Pojoaque.

The Pintos (3-9) trailed only 36-31 at intermission. But a shoddy second half doomed Moriarty to its seventh straight defeat as Pojoaque, the state's No. 2-ranked AAA team, pulled away for a 75-54 victory.

"As far as intensity goes, we played one of our best first halves all season," said Moriarty coach Keith Bond. "All the kids were crashing the boards. And we were allowing almost no second and third shots."

Bond said he praised his team at halftime, but the Pintos came out in the second half and let the game slip away. Pojoaque scored the first eight points of the third quarter and Moriarty was never in contention the rest of the way.
