Company Has Barriers, Not Obstacles.(Business)

A Valencia County business is putting its stamp on the Big I reconstruction project in Albuquerque.

Castillo Ready Mix Concrete, located just north of Belen, has the contract to supply wall barriers that separate and direct traffic flow, sound barrier walls and panels to make the mechanically stabilized earth wall that will extend along the eastern side of I-25 just south of the Big I.

It also is supplying the coping to finish off the tops of the wall panels and the concrete posts to support them.

With a total surface of 750,000 square feet, the stabilized earth wall will be the second largest of its kind in the world, said Francis Leonard Castillo, who owns and operates the company with his wife, Regina, and son, Richard. Castillo prefers to be called Leonard.

Similar projects have taken five years to build. The Big I is scheduled to be finished in only two years and Castillo is proud of the fact that his company is helping make that possible. …
